About Senator LeBeau

Senator Gary LeBeau was elected to his sixth term in the Connecticut State Senate in November 2006, where he represents the 3rd Senatorial District towns of East Hartford, South Windsor, East Windsor and Ellington.

Senator LeBeau is currently co-chair of the Legislature's Commerce Committee, and a member of the Transportation and Legislative Management committees. He is also a member of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee where he chairs the Transportation Bonding Subcommittee. Senator LeBeau was recently appointed a vice-chairman of the Labor and Economic Development Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures, which is headquartered in Washington, D.C.

Senator LeBeau was first elected to the Connecticut General Assembly in 1990 as a State Representative from the town of East Hartford. While in the state House, he served on the Finance Committee and as Vice-chair of the Commerce Committee.

Long active in community service, he has served on the East Hartford Town Council and is currently a member of the Blessed Sacrament/Our Lady of Peace linked parishes, the East Hartford Historical Society, and the League of Women Voters. Senator LeBeau is also a member and a past president of the Lions Club, and a founder of the Hockanum River Valley Association.

Born and raised in Easthampton, Massachusetts, Senator LeBeau was educated in public schools and graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Masters Degree in Education, a Sixth-Year Degree from the University of Connecticut, and Elementary Education Certification from Central Connecticut State University.

His professional experience includes founding the Synergy School for at-risk students and working as the coordinator for Drop Out Prevention and Drug-Free Schools Program for the East Hartford schools. Senator LeBeau currently teaches sociology and United State history at East Hartford High School and conducts the Safe and Drug Free School Program. He also has served on several boards and commissions, including: The ERASE Board of Directors, The Capital Region Growth Council Board of Directors, the Liquor Control Task Force Against Underage Drinking, the CT Economic Conference Board, the International Trade Council, the Cultural Heritage Committee, and the East Hartford Child Plan.

Senator LeBeau is a resident of East Hartford, living at 4 Gorman Place with his wife Joanne Sullivan LeBeau, their children Kara, Matthew and Christopher, and their dog "Hershey," a chocolate Labrador Retriever.
