Celebrating Munson's Excellence

This week I had the pleasure of visiting Munson’s Chocolates on Route 6 in Bolton and presenting them with an “Excellence in Manufacturing Award” for setting an example of consistency and success in manufacturing right here in Connecticut.

Munson’s Chocolates was founded in 1946, and the first store was located in Manchester behind a tailor shop. It was there that they would make batches of wafers and ribbon candy from the sugar rations they received following the end of WW II. Soon after, they moved operations to a horse barn, where they converted the barn into two parts: a kitchen and a retail store.

The results of their efforts were chocolates so incredible that they became legendary Soon everyone knew that if you wanted superb chocolates, you had to go to Munson’s. The rest, as they say, is history.

Today Munson’s is a third-generation candy family, and they are Connecticut’s largest retail chocolate manufacturer. They’ve won the “Retailer of the Year” Award in Connecticut and have been recognized as having the best chocolate candy in Connecticut by Hartford Magazine, all the while making candy that supports breast cancer research, raises money for anti-bullying efforts, or incorporates ingredients from other local manufacturers like they did with their Onyx Moonshine Apple Honey Chocolate Caramels.

In short, Munson’s is everything you could ask for in a homegrown local business, and I am so proud to recognize everything they have accomplished.
