Meeting with Students and Faculty at Manchester Community College

Last week, I met with students and faculty in the Occupational Therapy and Allied Health programs at Manchester Community College to discuss the Students First initiative proposed by the Board of Regents for Higher Education.

It was a pleasure to discuss their programs and future job hopes. However, they have serious concerns over what will happen under the Board's consolidation plan.

Not all allied health programs are the same. There are different accreditation standards, student statuses, needs, and wants that must be taken into consideration as plans move forward. These concerns cannot be taken lightly!

It was an honor to be invited and speak with the students and professors from these programs at Manchester Community College. I learned a great deal and will relay this information to my fellow legislators and the Board of Regents.

Taking a Stand Against Gun Violence

This week, students across the country participated in walk outs to honor the 17 lives lost at Stoneman Douglas and urged lawmakers in Washington to pass stronger gun safety laws.

I’m so proud of all the young people advocating for a change and standing up for those we’ve lost in senseless acts of gun violence. Thank you for your courage and for speaking out.

Stronger gun safety measures in this country are necessary. I fought for Connecticut’s change in gun laws following the tragedy at Sandy Hook and will support future measures to ensure the safety of our students and teachers.
