FIGHTING FOR OUR COMMUNITY

Edison School Thanks Firefighters

Last week's International Firefighters Day celebration at Edison School in Bridgeport was fantastic! The students put on a great program full of songs, dances, and poems to show their appreciation for the Bridgeport Fire Department Ladder Company Six.

It's great to see our local schools encouraging students to embrace and celebrate the communities they live in. I'd like to join Edison School in thanking all the brave men and women who put themselves at risk every day to serve the people of our city. We appreciate your service.

Bioscience Career Opportunities for HCC Students

The Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) system is teaming up with The Jackson Laboratory to prepare students for bioscience and biotechnology careers, and give genetics training to higher education teachers.

The Jackson Laboratory

The Genomics Workforce Institute aims to promote professional development, faculty collaboration, training for students, curriculum development and access to potential employers.

More than 140 students from Connecticut’s 17 community colleges (including Bridgeport’s Housatonic Community College) and four-year schools attended a ceremony at The Jackson Laboratory in Farmington that formalized the agreement last week.

Students will benefit from training and The Jackson Laboratory will have access to highly skilled potential employees in our state.

Grant funding for the program ended this year, but Jackson Labs said it agreed to continue the program and partnership with CSCU.
