Bridgeport Declared a "Welcoming City" for Undocumented Immigrants

This week I celebrated alongside immigrant rights advocates as the City Council passed a resolution declaring Bridgeport a "Welcoming City" for all, including undocumented immigrants.

Welcoming City approved.

Similar to the characteristics of a sanctuary city, Bridgeport's "Welcoming City" resolution reaffirms the city's commitment to welcoming people regardless of where they were born or what papers they may or may not have.

This decision by the Council was an important step toward protecting undocumented immigrants in this city from harmful immigration policies by leaders in Washington.

For too long, Bridgeport's undocumented immigrant students and children of undocumented immigrant parents have lived in fear of being separated from their families through deportation.

But it's been made clear that Bridgeport will not turn its back on its neighbors.
