Listening to You

Remembering on Memorial Day

Like many of you, I spent Memorial Day commemorating the sacrifices of our military men and women who have laid down their lives in the service of our country. Since the founding of this nation, Connecticut residents have answered the call of duty in defense of the United States.

This Memorial Day I had the opportunity to meet many of our local veterans and thank them for their service. I had the distinct honor of meeting Bill Brody, a 96-year-old WWII Army veteran who lives in Branford. Brody, who led the 2017 Branford Memorial Day Parade as parade marshal, was just 22 when he enlisted and arrived in Europe, where he remained for the duration of the war. Bill Brody is a patriot in the truest sense of the word, and it was an honor to meet him, particularly on Memorial Day, when we reflect on all the men and women who lost their lives in defense of our country.

Join Me in Celebrating CT Trails Day 2017

As Senate Co-Chair of the Environment Committee, I appreciate Connecticut's exceptional natural beauty. Our state's mountains, forests, lakes, rivers and beaches are also key to ensuring our future economic success. We are fortunate to have an extensive network of hiking trails that provide unique public access to these natural resources.

More than 236 events will be held in more than 100 towns across Connecticut for CT Trails Day. On June 4 and 5, thousands of people will take part in hikes and other activities in some of Connecticut's most beautiful green spaces. Several of these activities will be held in 12th District communities:

Health Plan Provider Directories: Ensuring Transparency for Consumers

This week, I led the unanimous Senate Passage of SB 546, a bill I introduced to ensure the accuracy of health insurer provider lists. Many of my constituents are confused and misled by the current system of health provider directories, which do not indicate if a network provider is, in fact, available to see a new patient on an outpatient basis.

This has led to Connecticut health insurance policyholders having to call dozens of providers in a desperate attempt to find someone who can provide needed care. My bill makes a simple change to ensure that provider directories are more accurate and user-friendly, enabling more patients to get the care that they need in a timely, efficient way. Now that the bill has passed in the Senate, it moves on to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
