CT's Top Companies for Disability Inclusion

As Chairman of the Board of the American Association of People with Disabilities, year after year I challenge employers in Connecticut and all across America to do a better job of integrating people with disabilities into their workforce.

So I was thrilled to see so many Connecticut companies are doing just that based on the top scores they received in the 2018 Disability Equality Index, which is America’s leading corporate benchmarking tool that evaluates inclusion and equality for people with disabilities.

This is the fourth year that this list has been compiled by the American Association of People with Disabilities and the US Business Leadership Network.

The top scorers in Connecticut included Aetna, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Cigna, Synchrony Financial, The Hartford, United Technologies Corporation (UTC), and Voya Financial; they all scored 80 or above on the Disability Equity Index. The Index measures key performance indicators, including leadership, accessibility, employment, community engagement, support services and supplier diversity.

I have often remarked that the disability community in America has the experience, talent, dedication and knowledge that’s an asset for any employer, so I want to congratulate all of the 2018 DEI winners—especially those here in my home state of Connecticut—and I want them to serve as an example for other companies and as a reminder of the great things we can accomplish when we work together.
