Mohegans to Expand Access to Jobs for People with Disabilities

More good news is coming out of East Windsor, as the Mohegan tribe recently announced it has started talks with a local facility to provide job opportunities for residents with intellectual, developmental and mental health disabilities.

As the Mohegans and Mashantuckets prepare to partner on a new joint venture in East Windsor, they are exploring different ways to integrate into the community, including by partnering with Elegant Clinical Services--a facility which helps disabled individuals in the region develop the life and work skills necessary to finding employment.

This is another example of the great investments that the casinos make in our communities, outside of being a main driver of tourism and jobs in the State of Connecticut.

We are fortunate that our tribal partners continue to prove their value time and again by looking beyond their gaming operations to find creative ways to benefit our communities and the residents of our great state.

I applaud their efforts, and look forward seeing how this partnership will benefit our community.

2017 Art at the Capitol Reception

It was an absolute pleasure to host the 32nd Annual Art at the Capitol Reception this month, where my colleagues and I celebrated the artwork of students from the Third Senatorial District.

Art at the Capitol

This program allows staff and visitors at the Capitol to see firsthand just how talented the young artists in our schools are, thanks in large part to the excellent art teachers in our district.

I want to thank the program's sponsor Pratt & Whitney; Program Coordinator Brenda Parker, an East Hartford art teacher; East Windsor art teacher Kate Boiczyk; South Windsor Visual Arts Coordinator Nicholas Canova; and the excellent art instructors of East Hartford, East Windsor and South Windsor.

Most of all, I want to thank the more than 150 students who submitted entries for Art at the Capitol this year for sharing their talents with the entire state of Connecticut!
