Saturday: Low-cost Rabies Vaccine Clinic Coming to East Hartford

Dogs and cats in need of a new rabies vaccination are in luck!

My office is partnering with the Connecticut Humane Society and East Hartford Animal Control to bring a low-cost rabies vaccine clinic to East Hartford this Saturday, June 9.

The community event will be held rain or shine from 10 a.m. to noon at the YMCA Larson Center, 81 Woodlawn Circle, in the Mayberry Village area of East Hartford. Pet owners do not need to make an appointment.

Connecticut Humane Society staff members will be inoculating dogs and cats—who must be at least 3 months old to receive the vaccination—as part of the nonprofit’s effort to protect pets and citizens from the threat of rabies. The cost is only $10 per pet, which must be paid in cash.

Connecticut Humane Society reserves the right to refuse sick, pregnant or aggressive pets. Additionally, pet owners seeking a three-year vaccine must bring proof of a valid rabies certificate.

Rabies vaccination is mandated by law because the disease is fatal to all mammals that contract rabies and is a threat to public safety. A dog must also be vaccinated in order for it to receive a license from the town, and the deadline to renew dog licenses in Connecticut is June 30.
