Working With You

I am happy to announce that General Assembly's Environment Committee has passed an amended bill banning hunting in New Haven between I-95 and I-91, designating that area between the Quinnipiac River and Mill River as a state refuge for wildlife.

The legislation was developed after area neighbors brought the issue to Rep. Paolillo's attention and mine during a recent 'Coffee and Conversation' that we hosted with our mutual constituents.

Hunting in an urban setting, near densely populated neighborhoods, poses a public safety issue and a quality of life issue.

Rep. Paolillo and I were happy to work with area residents and I am grateful that they brought this issue to our attention. As a result of their activism, we are well on our way to solving this problem.

The bill, Senate Bill 109, An Act Concerning the Protection of Connecticut's Water, Air and Natural Resources, next heads to the floor of the Senate for further consideration.

Three Important Bills

This was a very important week for the Democratic Values Agenda as three bills critical to economic security for women and families were voted on in the Labor Committee.

Thankfully, Democratic Senators and Representatives in the Labor Committee voted to pass Earned Family Medical Leave, Pay Equity and Raising the Minimum Wage.

Unfortunately, Earned Family Medical Leave and Raising the Minimum were opposed by my Republican colleagues as they turned their backs on hardworking families in Connecticut.

It is time for Connecticut to:

  • Ensure employees can take earned time off to care for loved ones or themselves
  • Eliminate the wage gap and ensure pay equity for women
  • Raise the wage of parents trying to make ends meet and for single moms working to provide for their children

We need the support of each and every one of you to pass these bills over the next month and a half.

Together we can improve the economy so that it works for everyone--not just those at the top.
