Walk-in Mammogram?

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month draws to a close, I’d like to remind everyone, specifically women age 40 and above who did not have their mammogram this past month, of the importance of screening mammography.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Last week, I visited Advanced Women's Imaging Center in Trumbull where doctors and staff are now using new 3-D imaging mammography machines, a diagnostic and screening tool to examine the human breast to detect breast cancer. Doctors said many women who haven’t had a mammogram say they don’t have time or forget to make an appointment.

Well, here’s the good news. You can walk in and get your mammogram at Advanced Women's Imaging Center without an appointment.

Approximately 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer and 8 out of 9 of those diagnosed have no family history of breast cancer. In addition, early detection continues to provide a five-year survival rate of almost 100%.

Significant research has been done and continues to be done on the demographics, benefits, costs, and value of periodic screening. As screening technology has improved, doctors have witnessed a corresponding drop in the need for additional diagnostic mammography as well.
