Be Heard: Public Comment on Proposed Bus and Rail Fare Increases

The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced a public comment period to gather input on proposed bus and rail fare increases and service reductions.

If approved, a 21.28 percent rail fare increase would take effect in three phases: 10 percent on July 1, 2018, five percent on July 1, 2020, and five percent on July 2021. A 14.3 percent, or 25-cent, bus fare increase would take effect on July 1, 2018.

Public hearings will occur throughout the state. Testimony can be submitted at a hearing, over email to, or through the mail to Comment on Proposed Fare and Service Changes, Connecticut Department of Transportation, P.O. Box 317546, Newington, CT 06131-7546.

Fare increases and service reductions too often have a disparate impact on minority, low-income, and urban populations. I hope you will join me and take this opportunity to have your voice heard.

More information on the proposed changes can be found at
