Upcoming Deadlines: Energy Assistance and Homeowner Tax Relief

ABCD Energy Program

The ABCD Energy Program provides help to eligible households who reside in Bridgeport, Trumbull, Stratford, Monroe, Easton, Fairfield, Westport, and Norwalk with assistance in paying their winter heating bills.

You must apply by May 1st, 2018 to establish your eligibility for benefits unless your household is utility heated and has a shut off notice for its primary source of heat. There are several programs for which you may be eligible and one application covers all programs.

Bridgeport’s Homeowner Tax Relief Program

Bridgeport residents must re-apply to continue receiving your Homeowner’s Tax Relief Benefit. Applications will be taken at Bridgeport City Hall, 45 Lyon Terrace, in the Assessor’s Office (Room 103) Monday thru Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. through May 15, 2018.

The 2017 maximum qualifying income, including Social Security and non-taxable income, is $43,000 for a married applicant and $35,300 for single applicants.

If you are under 65 years old and receiving Social Security Disability, you are required to submit a currently dated certificate of award (TPQY) when you apply.

Please bring the following documents for income verification:

  • 2017 Federal Income Tax Return plus any non-taxable income statement not reported on the return
  • Any income statement received in January 2018 (1099 INT, 1099 R, W-2, etc) plus any non-taxable income statements (VA pension, tax-free interest)

If applicable:

  • If you are under 65 years old and receiving Social Security Disability, a currently dated certificate of award (TPQY)
  • 2017 Social Security Benefit Statement (SSA1099)
