New Business in Town!

Rob Miller (left) and Jason Vincent (right), two of six co-owners of Epicure Brewing at 40 Franklin Street in Norwich, recently welcomed me to tour their pub, a 5,000 square-foot taproom that is located in the former printing press area of the Norwich Bulletin newspaper.

The Rebirth of the Ponemah Mill

This week, I took an hour-long tour of the Ponemah Mill in Norwich, which has been re-born into new apartments with a massive infusion of state aid. Reclaiming old, unused industrial buildings, cleaning up contaminated brownfields, and turning these places into affordable housing creates jobs, sparks economic growth and provides the homes that young people need to get their own start in life.

Get Prepared for a Difficult Flu Season

Influenza (“the flu”) is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death. Infectious disease experts are projecting a particularly bad flu season this year. The strains of the flu virus that people are contracting this year are stronger than usual. Unfortunately, this year’s flu vaccine is expected to be weaker than usual at preventing the flu. Despite that, experts still recommend that everyone get vaccinated, because even a weaker flu vaccine will help keep millions of people healthy and tens of thousands of people out of the hospital.

If you haven’t received your flu shot yet, I recommend that you do (flu seasons usually lasts through March.) To find a flu vaccine in your area, call the United Way at 2-1-1.
