January Brings Wave of Good Economic News

In case you may have missed it, Connecticut is awash in great economic news. Here are just a few of the highlights from newspapers across the state in January that represent the culmination of state efforts to grow jobs and my intention to keep that trend going!

Electric Boat's Workforce Hits Highest Level in Quarter-Century

Headquartered in Groton and building America's submarine fleet, EB's new and planned hires have now surpassed 16,000, their highest level in at least 25 years. There are more jobs to come. -- The Day
 

CT Adds 7,700 Jobs in 2017

Manufacturing made a comeback in Connecticut last year, seeing an employment increase for the first time in seven years. -- Hartford Business Journal
 

Good News for Connecticut's Economy

Connecticut Economy Sees 3Q Growth Spurt

The Hartford Business Journal reports that from July through September of 2017, Connecticut's economy--led by the finance and insurance sectors--grew faster than the nation as a whole and better than New England's average. -- Hartford Business Journal

After briefly considering moving its corporate headquarters to New York City under former CEO Mark Bertolini, Aetna's new corporate parent CVS says Hartford is "the perfect place" for Aetna to stay and grow the center of its insurance operations. -- Hartford Business Journal
 

$5 Million STEM Grant Awarded to Connecticut Colleges

The National Science Foundation announced that it has awarded $5 million to Connecticut colleges to diversify student enrollment in science, technology, engineering and math education. -- Hartford Business Journal
