Important Opportunity to Testify Against Silver Sands Buildout

One year ago, hundreds of Milford residents turned out to speak in opposition to the proposed buildout at Silver Sands State Park. Since then our questions have gone unanswered and our concerns remain. Next week, there will be an opportunity to testify in support of a bill I introduced to halt this project. The Environment Committee will hold a public hearing on Monday, March 13 at 10:30 a.m. on this and other bills in room 2A of the Legislative Office Building, located on 300 Capitol Ave. in Hartford. Even if you cannot make the trip up to Hartford to testify in person, I encourage you to make your voice heard and submit written testimony online by emailing it to:

Silver Sands Beach State Park

I introduced Senate Bill 605 to ensure that the state could not pursue this controversial construction project at Silver Sands without approval from the town of Milford. This bill would establish a moratorium on construction of the project until such time as the Milford Board of Alderman votes to approve it.

Last week I submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection in order to obtain more information on this project. I am very concerned that this $10 million buildout is moving forward while Governor Malloy is proposing that millions of dollars be cut from our schools and town. I have requested extensive information on this project in the past, but have heard no response. It is my hope that this FOIA request will give us the information we want on this project. I will be sure to keep you updated.
