Get Prepared for a Difficult Flu Season

Influenza is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death. Infectious disease experts are projecting a particularly bad flu season this year. The strains of the flu virus that people are contracting this year are stronger than usual. Unfortunately, this year's flu vaccine is expected to be weaker than usual at preventing the flu. Despite that, experts still recommend that everyone get vaccinated, as even a weaker flu vaccine will help keep millions of people healthy and tens of thousands out of the hospital.

I am happy that I got my flu vaccine early. If you haven't gotten your flu shot yet, I recommend you do so. Flu season will peak soon and can last into March. Flu vaccines are available all around Connecticut. To find a flu vaccine provider in your area, dial 2-1-1 or visit the Healthmap Vaccine Finder. The HealthMap Vaccine Finder is a website that tracks the availability of a variety of vaccines, including all types of the seasonal Influenza/Flu vaccine. Pricing information is included where available, as well as the hours of operation for clinics and other sites that offer the vaccine.
