Protecting Connecticut's Health with the American Heart Association

As Senate Co-Chair of the Public Health Committee, I have had the opportunity to work with incredible organizations like the American Heart Association (AHA). This week, I was honored to be recognized on their website for my advocacy on bills promoting a healthier Connecticut.

This year, I am working with the AHA on Senate Bill 34, which would allow hospitals to be designated by the Department of Public Health as "comprehensive stroke centers," "primary stroke centers" or "acute stroke-ready hospitals." These designations will help EMS operators determine the best place to transport stroke victims and educate the public about how equipped hospitals are to provide life-saving stroke systems of care. This will ensure that Connecticut residents suffering from a stroke and their loved ones are able to get the best available care when they need it, allowing for improved patient outcomes and a decrease in long-term effects.
