New Transit-Oriented Economy Growth in New Britain

I was proud to join my colleagues in New Britain's legislative delegation to announce the final approval of funding for new housing and commercial units to be constructed in the vacant lot that used to hold New Britain's old police station. The new building, which will be called "Columbus Commons," will include commercial space for retail, office space and restaurants, along with 80 new housing units.

The first floor will consist of commercial space, while the upper floors will provide new housing opportunities for families and individuals. Columbus Commons will be a vital addition to a community that is experiencing growth due to the nearby CTFastrak station. Growing the transit-oriented district around CTFastrak is exactly what New Britain needs to grow our economy and move the city forward. The new businesses that will move into Columbus Commons will help draw people to our city via the Fastrak, and the residential units will be great for commuters who use the busway to get to work.
