Creating a More Business-Friendly Environment

Creating a more business-friendly environment is the most critical issue facing our state. That’s why I’ve spent this last session championing new laws that focus on creating jobs and growing our economy.

Creating More Bioscience Jobs

I worked with a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers to support proposals that prepare our workforce and position Connecticut as a national leader in biomedical research. We are locked in a global competition to create good-paying jobs and support high-growth industries. With our talented, hardworking and highly educated workforce, Connecticut possesses all of the ingredients to capitalize on the exponential growth that is set to occur in precision medicine and biomedical research.

Investing in Small Business & Eliminating Red Tape

I was proud to lead passage of a law that expands the Angel Investor Tax Credit program to all businesses in our state. Angel investors, individuals who make investments in small businesses, are a major contributor to job growth. This program has already helped dozens of companies, and I look forward to its continued success.

Demanding Transparency & Accountability in Government Spending

Small-business owners from across my district have told me that our state government should be much more careful about which businesses it chooses to subsidize with scarce and valuable tax incentives. So this past session, I helped to pass a law that requires our state to continuously monitor and evaluate all state business assistance and tax incentive programs. These performance audits will help us determine how to get “the biggest bang for our buck” and which tax incentives should be discontinued.
