Honesty & Integrity

Wrapping Up the 2017 Legislative Session

As we come to a close here in the State Senate, I want to take a moment to reflect on the busy legislative session that we've had.

This was a very busy session with budgetary issues that we had to keep in mind as we went through the process of moving bills along.

Nothing at the State Capitol gets done by one person alone. You have to be able to work with people across the aisle, which I am proud to say I was able to do. This year I worked with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass a number of bills to make Connecticut a better place for all our families.

I was proud to:

  • Vote in the Senate for women's health care protections guaranteed to us under Obamacare to fight back against Donald Trump and the Republican Congress
  • Protect school funding from unnecessary and unprecedented cuts
  • Stand with our neighbors and fight for Bridgeport to protect undocumented immigrants from harassment
  • Increase oversight at the Department of Children and Families to protect kids from abuse and neglect

I have enjoyed being in the district with all of you. Whether it was traveling through all our towns for budget listening forums or celebrating our young students with my annual essay contest, listening to you is important to making me the very best senator I can be.

Thanks to all of you who sent emails, called my office, or reached out to me personally. I look forward to continuing the hard work needed for our state and seeing you all in district this summer.
