Fighting the Silver Sands Buildout

This year in Hartford, I introduced Senate Bill 605, which would ensure the state could not pursue the controversial buildout of Silver Sands Beach State Park without approval from the Town of Milford. The state has not provided information explaining why this buildout is necessary and whether it would damage the neighborhood and endanger local wildlife. The people of Milford deserve a say in this $10 million project.

After months of hard work, the bill passed the State Senate by a unanimous, bipartisan vote nearly two weeks before the State House and State Senate constitutionally end business on midnight of June 7th. While a large portion of bills pass on the last few days, I made sure to get this bill passed out of the State Senate and on to the State House as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, the bill was unable to pass out of the State House until the final day of the 2017 legislative session. An amendment placed on the bill 15 minutes before the midnight deadline prevented its final legislative passage.

I will continue to fight this project and other costly and unnecessary state projects that Milford opposes.
