Gomes Rallies Behind Two Bridgeport Men Facing Deportation

video of rally in Bridgeport.

State Senator Ed Gomes (D-Bridgeport) joined state and local leaders in Bridgeport Saturday to show their support for two men who are facing deportation under President Donald Trump’s crackdown on undocumented residents.

The two families came together to show their solidarity under extraordinary circumstance at the Margaret E. Morton Government Center. Pablo Garcia, 62, of the Dominican Republic, and Cleilson Vaz, 31, of Brazil, joined their families to receive the public support of Sen. Gomes, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, and other local officials.

Both Garcia and Vaz say they have lived in the United States for more than a decade and that they work, pay taxes and have no criminal records. The men have young children, including one with special needs, and they say there will be nobody to care for them if the men are sent to their native countries.

Under former President Barack Obama’s immigration police, they were allowed to stay in the Unites State once their visas expired, but under President Trump’s controversial national crackdown on undocumented residents, the men have been forced to wear ankle bracelet and are facing deportation.
