Senator Ed Gomes to Kick Off “Good Morning Bridgeport” School Tours

Calling on men in the community to serve as role models to city youth

BRIDGEPORT—Senator Ed Gomes (D-Bridgeport) and Bridgeport’s Men of Substance will kick off the 2017-18 Good Morning Bridgeport school tour on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Dunbar School, 445 Union Ave. at 8:00 a.m.

Good Morning Bridgeport is a collective of men from the community who support, encourage, and inspire Bridgeport Public School scholars through school greetings. Sen. Gomes is inviting men from the community to join Good Morning Bridgeport at Dunbar School to help them cheer students on as they walk through the doors in the morning.

“We have a serious problem in our city where young boys are lacking role models and mentors from their own neighborhoods who they can look up to for guidance. They’re turning to the streets because that’s the only place they feel accepted. But through these school greetings, and by other means, we can show our youth just how valuable they truly are to us,” Sen. Gomes said. “They need to see they have people in their corner. So I’m calling on all men in our community to join Good Morning Bridgeport and show our students that we care about their education, we are here to support them, and we are committed to their success.”

Similar to the national Million Father March events that occur on the first day of school across the country, Good Morning Bridgeport aims to encourage men to show their commitment to the educational lives of their children on the first day of school and throughout the school year.

Good Morning Bridgeport plans to visit one school on the first Monday of every month for the rest of the year. Some schools have also invited Good Morning Bridgeport to visit on other days.

September 6—Great Oaks Charter School, 510 Barnum Ave.; 7:15 a.m.
