Sen. Leone Statement on CBIA Opposition to Tolls

HARTFORD – Today, state Senator Carlo Leone (D-Stamford) issued the following statement in reaction to the CBIA’s stated opposition to instituting tolls in Connecticut, despite its admission that its own members believe that tolls are an acceptable method of funding much-needed highway and bridge repairs:

“It is disheartening to hear CBIA's logic for not supporting a protected and dedicated revenue stream to fund our infrastructure, especially with 40 percent paid from those negatively impacting our roadway that Connecticut must pay for each and every day,” said Sen. Leone. “Business leaders have continuously lamented their workers cannot get to work on time, or indicate strategic decisions must be made if Connecticut cannot address their concerns. However, CBIA offers no alternatives or suggestions to further their own cause. They also are silent on more long term debt as a solution. Their inability or lack of desire to offer anything more than their statement does in fact speak volumes. Their bias other than to say no is a disservice to their full membership and citizens across the state.”
