Colapietro Welcomes Bonding for Bristol Organization

State Senator Thomas Colapietro (D-Bristol) today welcomed news that allocations for the Bristol Community Organization, Inc. (BCO) have been added to the State Bond Commission's next agenda.

The BCO is slated to receive $290,000 as reimbursement for costs associated with the acquisition of its 254 Lake Avenue facility. The organization is also slated to receive an additional $85,000 bond for improvements to the building, including roof replacement and outdoor paving.

"It's great that the Bristol Community Organization has been recognized by the governor and included on this agenda," Senator Colapietro said. "The BCO does good work for Bristol and its surrounding towns, and I'd urge the bond commission to approve these grants so that this work can continue."

Founded in 1965, the BCO is a private nonprofit community action agency serving the young, elderly, handicapped and economically disadvantaged individuals and families, with the mission to help eliminate or alleviate the causes and effects of poverty in the Greater Bristol Area.

The organization serves the towns of Bristol, Burlington, Farmington, Plainville and Plymouth and helps nearly 8,000 residents annually.

The funding is expected to be approved when the State Bond Commission meets on December 12, 2007, in Room 1E of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford at 10:30 a.m.
