Colapietro Helps Bristol Community Organization Obtain Contract to Administer Federal Stimulus Funds for Weatherization Programs
Working closely with the Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS), Senator Thomas Colapietro (D-Bristol) helped to clear the way for the Bristol Community Organization, Inc. (BCO) to participate in the administration of $64 million in federal stimulus funds that will be coming to Connecticut for weatherization.
The BCO is a non-profit community action agency that has the mission of helping to eliminate the causes of poverty in the Bristol area. It services the communities of Bristol, Plymouth/Terryville, Plainville, Farmington and Burlington.
Senator Colapietro got involved with DSS to make sure BCO would be able to help administer the weatherization funds under the federal stimulus package. The funding will allow BCO to help eligible households with energy assistance and weatherization.
“BCO has done an excellent job over the years with the administration of their energy assistance and weatherization program and I’m pleased the Department of Social Services has cleared the way for this agency to serve as a contractor for the new federal program,” said Senator Colapietro. “This is good for the state and the homeowners in the Bristol area who will be eligible for this program that will help them save on energy.”
“I’m pleased our agency has been added to the state plan as a temporary contractor for the federal stimulus weatherization program,” said Thomas Morrow, the Executive Director of BCO. “There were some questions raised by DSS, but with Senator Colapietro’s help we have been added into the state plan to become a sub-contactor for weatherization.”
