Coleman Announces $1.8 Million in Funding for Hartford's Community Health Services

Senator Eric Coleman (Bloomfield/Hartford) has announced $1.8 million in funding for Community Health Services, Inc. (CHS) in Hartford. The State Bond Commission is expected to give final approval to the funding during a meeting scheduled for Friday, October 6th at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

CHS is a non-profit, federally qualified community health center. Located at 500 Albany Avenue in Hartford, the facility offers a full range of health care services, and currently serves 14,000 people.

The $1.8 million will be used for a major expansion project at Community Health Services that will include upgrading the pediatrics and women's health programs, the creation of a separate and expanded adolescent medicine program, and the establishment of an emergency command center.

"CHS performs a very valuable service in treating many of the poor and uninsured in the region. They are a very vital component of the health care system," said Senator Coleman. "This money will enable them to more effectively serve the tens of thousands of patients that they see on an annual basis."

"This funding to expand the operations of CHS was authorized some time ago, and I'm pleased it will be approved by the Bond Commission," said Senator Coleman. "I also want to commend the other members of the Hartford legislative delegation for helping to secure this funding."
