Senator Eric Coleman (D-Bloomfield) announced that the State Bond Commission has approved $690,000 in funding for the Jumoke Academy Charter School to move forward with a major school construction project.
The funding is part of a program to assist charter schools in Connecticut with capital expenses, including school building and improvement projects. Jumoke Academy will use the grant to buy and renovate the building at 333-335 on Blue Hills Avenue in Hartford.
Jumoke Academy is one of the first charter schools constitutionally approved under Connecticut's Charter School legislation in 1997. The school maintains an enrollment of nearly 370 students and offers educational programs that include music, art and technology. Over the years, the school has been successful in helping the students achieve academic success.
"The favorable performance of Jumoke Academy students on statewide testing clearly indicates that Jumoke Academy is accomplishing some extraordinary, well-heralded and reputable things regarding the nurturing and education of its students," said Senator Coleman. "This funding will enable the expansion of the school through the establishment of a separate facility that will accommodate the middle school students of the school."
