Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that $75,000 for two Naugatuck projects is expected to gain approval when the state Bond Commission meets January 25.
Of the funding, $25,000 will go toward public housing renovations and $50,000 will go toward improvements to Salem School recreation facilities. The elementary school, located at 124 Meadow Street, serves approximately 320 students.
"All across Connecticut, we are making sound investments that aim to not only improve residents' quality of life but also to boost the economic health of our cities and towns," Governor Rell said. "Our public housing and our schools must be safe and they must be secure."
"These funds for Naugatuck public housing and the Salem School will make a real difference in the lives of Naugatuck families," State Senator Joseph Crisco said. "It is critical that the state partner with municipalities to address these long-term needs. With this announcement, we are helping to ensure that local residents are living and learning in a safe environment."
In December, Governor Rell announced $75,000 to finance an environmental impact evaluation for the Naugatuck Renaissance Place. The proposed project is an environmentally sustainable mixed-use waterfront development on 60 acres. Phase I includes 1.2 million square feet consisting of 522 residential units, retail, office and entertainment spaces and 1,237 structured parking spaces.
Last year, Governor Rell announced a $600,000 grant to improve the overall accessibility of the town's YMCA building.
