Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that $25,000 to make renovations to the Beacon Falls Town Hall is expected to gain approval when the state Bond Commission meets January 25. The Town Hall is located at 10 Maple Avenue.
"Beacon Falls, with its beautiful hills, is a picturesque Connecticut town," Governor Rell said. "We want to help the community to retain its character, and when the state can step in and help the town address the building's long-term needs, we are happy to do so.
"In the Naugatuck Valley and in every city and town in Connecticut, we are listening to the needs of municipalities. From senior centers to soccer fields, we are partnering with towns to invest in the projects that make a positive impact on everyone's quality of life. We ask local officials what makes their town unique and what they want to preserve for future generations.
"Throughout the state, we have been fighting sprawl and promoting responsible growth. That means preserving our open space, concentrating development around city and town centers and making mass transit more appealing and more convenient."
Governor Rell thanked State Senator Joseph Crisco for his advocacy of the project.
"We continue to fight at the state level for much needed local projects like this one," Sen. Crisco said. "The building is a town symbol, and it should always be a source of pride for local residents. This is a wise investment in Beacon Falls' future."
Governor Rell said that funding was approved in June for the resurfacing of a 1.65 mile section of Route 42 in Beacon Falls about three-tenths of a mile south of the access to Route 8 southbound to state route 852. The funding is part of a $54 million allocation that will pay for the resurfacing of about 180 miles of two-lane roads throughout the state.
