Crisco and Amity Superintendent of Schools John Brady to Host Forum on Teenage Driving

Event will be held April 9th at Amity High School

The tragic increase in the number of fatal accident involving teenage drivers in Connecticut has prompted Senator Joseph Crisco (D-Woodbridge) and Dr. John Brady, the Superintendent of Schools for the Amity Regional School District to conduct an informational forum on teenage driving. It will be held Wednesday, April 9th at 7:00 p.m. at Amity High School, 25 Newton Road, Woodbridge.

Members in the General Assembly, who represent the Amity communities of Bethany, Orange and Woodbridge have been invited to participate. The Superintendent of Schools of Milford, Dr. Harvey Polansky is also expected to attend.

Dr. Brady will present a power point presentation on the new Massachusetts laws on teenage driving that include stiffer penalties to help reduce driving fatalities. There will also be a discussion on the legislation considered this session by the General Assembly that outlines tougher penalties to reduce teen driving accidents.

"The theme of the forum will be on teenage driving and we'll try to determine if there is a need to change the laws in Connecticut to help reduce accidents and save lives. It will provide parents and students with an opportunity to speak out on this issue," said Senator Crisco. "I'm deeply concerned about what has been happening with youthful drivers in regards to the accidents and deaths. I want see if there are some positive actions that can be taken. We have to be responsible and not make a decision based on a knee jerk reaction."

"Five New Haven area teens have died over the past two months, two from Amity, and three from Milford as a result of car accidents. It is time for the community to take a hard look at what can be done to both encourage safe driving by teens and to discourage risky driving behavior," said Dr. Brady. "The purpose of the forum is to bring the community together to hear what the legislature is considering, to see what other states have done, and to share ideas on how to encourage safe driving and discourage risky driving behavior on behalf of teens."
