Crisco to Be Honored by AARP for Support of Driving Safety Program for Seniors That Includes Insurance Discounts
A long time supporter of efforts to benefit seniors in Connecticut, Senator Joseph Crisco (D-Woodbridge) will be honored by AARP Connecticut for taking a leading role in a bill approved by the legislature that includes auto insurance discounts for seniors. It provides enhanced mobility options for seniors and promotes the AARP Driver Safety Program and online driver safety course.
Senator Crisco will be presented with the a special legislative achievement award during the AARP’s Annual Volunteer and Community Partner luncheon on November 13th at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington.
Senator Crisco, the co-chair of the General Assembly’s Insurance and Real Estate Committee will be recognized for demonstrating outstanding leadership for co-sponsoring S.B. 279, An Act Concerning Automobile Insurance Discounts. It requires the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to include regulations regarding accident-prevention courses people age 60 and over may take to qualify for an auto insurance discount. It also requires the regulation to address approval of courses that drivers take on the Internet.
A driver 60 years or older is eligible for an auto insurance premium discount for successfully completing an accident prevention course approved by DMV. The discount must be at least 5 percent and apply for at least 24 months.
