Acting Legend and Humanitarian Paul Newman Inducted Into Connecticut Hall of Fame

During a special induction ceremony, the co-chairs of the Connecticut Hall of Fame Committee, Senators Joseph Crisco (D-Woodbridge), Sam Caligiuri (R-Waterbury) and Representatives Elizabeth “Betty” Boukus (D-Plainville), Themis Klarides (R-Derby) announced that the late award winning actor and humanitarian Paul Newman was the newest inductee into the Hall of Fame, which is located on the second floor atrium break-out area of the Legislative Office Building.
The Connecticut Hall of Fame is designed to recognize current or former residents of Connecticut who have distinguished themselves in their profession and performed outstanding service to our state or nation.
Paul Newman was an acting legend, who won a Best Actor Oscar for his role in the “The Color of Money” and received two honorary Oscars. He created the Newman’s Own food brand and raised more than $250 million for charity, including the Hole in the Wall Camps for children with life-threatening illnesses. In addition to his acting career and humanitarian efforts, he was also a race car driver. Paul Newman was a longtime resident of Westport, Connecticut. He died from cancer last September at the age of 83.
The award was presented to Robert Forrester, the President and CEO of Newman’s Own Foundation.
“Paul Newman was truly an American icon and we are deeply honored to have the opportunity to induct him into the Connecticut Hall of Fame,” said Senator Crisco. “He was a Connecticut resident, an award winning actor, a race car driver, but I’m really impressed with his work over the years as a humanitarian. His work for charity sets him apart as someone who truly cared for people and it is a pleasure to pay tribute to his legacy.”
"We are so proud to have the honor of calling Paul Newman one of our own, and it is a privilege for us to name him to the Connecticut Hall of Fame. Through his humanitarian work, he was a powerful force for good in so many lives. He brought enjoyment to everyone through his wonderful films, and I know that future generations will admire him just as much as we do," said Senator Sam Caligiuri.
Representative Boukus said, “The Connecticut Hall of Fame was established to recognize people from Connecticut who distinguished themselves in their professions. As an actor, businessman and philanthropist Paul Newman proved to be a hall of famer on all fronts.”
“Paul Newman’s story is a truly American story and Connecticut can be proud he called our state home,” said Representative Klarides. “Mr. Newman is known widely for his distinguished film and Broadway career, but his service to our nation in WWII and his life-long philanthropic dedication further make him uniquely worthy of addition to the Connecticut Hall of Fame.”
