Senator Joseph J. Crisco (D-Woodbridge), left, prepares to receive one of 200 seasonal flu shots made available at his annual Senior Fair, held Thursday, October 8, in Ansonia. Senator Crisco welcomed hundreds of area seniors to the event that featured dozens of vendors and service providers with programs, products, and services directed toward older residents.
State Senator Joseph J. Crisco, Jr. (D-Woodbridge) today hosted hundreds of area residents to this year’s edition of his annual Senior Fair. The event is held each year at Warsaw Park in Ansonia; senior citizens from throughout Senator Crisco’s 17th District are invited to attend and participate.
Senator Crisco has hosted a senior fair every year since he was first elected in 1992 and his prototype is now standard fare in many other parts of the state. Each year dozens of service providers and vendors set up and staff exhibits at the event to showcase the programs, products, and services they direct toward older residents.
“I’m always so pleased that so many non-profit groups, state and local agencies, and civic organizations with helpful products and services for seniors register with my office and then exhibit at each year’s Senior Fair,” Senator Crisco said. “There is no substitute for face-to-face contact with those who can benefit; vendors routinely describe the pleasure they take interacting on a personal level with senior citizens at this event.”
Senator Crisco said some of this year’s highlights included healthcare exhibits, including diabetes and blood pressure screening and the availability of seasonal flu shots.
“This Fair has repeatedly served the best interests of 17th District seniors and has proven itself time and again as a most effective outreach tool, matching products and information about state and local services, programs, and activities with those for whom they are intended and who can best use the information,” Senator Crisco said. “We’ve had such an enthusiastic response to this event over the years — I look forward to seeing so many familiar faces every time we get together.”
Senator Crisco is serving his 9th term in the General Assembly. He is the Senate Chair of the Insurance and Real Estate Committee and the Internship Committee. He also serves as vice-chair of the Banking Committee and Commerce Committee, and as a member of the Legislative Management Committee.
