State Senator Joseph J. Crisco, Jr. (D-Woodbridge) announced today that an extension has been granted for applications to Yale-New Haven Hospital’s Minority Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship Program. Senator Crisco said students in his district from Amity, Ansonia, Derby, and Hamden high schools are encouraged to apply for the financial award.
Senator Crisco said the program is directed toward ‘high school senior(s) from . . . Greater New Haven,’ and Yale-New Haven Hospital has extended its application deadline; applications are now due March 31.
“This scholarship program provides a tremendous opportunity for aspiring nurses and healthcare professionals and is meant to be more inclusive, not more restrictive, so I’m pleased Yale-New Haven Hospital reconsidered and then extended its deadline,” Senator Crisco said. “I am delighted to report that applications from graduating seniors of these 17th District towns will now be accepted through the end of March.”
According to Yale-New Haven Hospital documents, applications for these $2,000 scholarships must be postmarked by March 31st; interested students can obtain an application at the following Web address: www.ynhh.org/community-health/Career.aspx or by calling 203-688-5083.
“There is no question but that Connecticut has a shortage of nurses and other qualified healthcare professionals and that this scholarship program helps minority students underwrite the education and training they need to help fill that void,” Senator Crisco said. “In this difficult economy we must help young people prepare to join a 21st century workforce that is competitive and attractive to employers, and the healthcare industry is one with significant opportunities for growth.”
“I’m grateful to Yale-New Haven Hospital for sponsoring this much-needed scholarship program and I urge seniors at Amity, Ansonia, Derby and Hamden high schools who would like a career in a healthcare-related field to strongly consider applying for these scholarships,” Senator Crisco added.
Senator Crisco is serving his 10th term in the General Assembly. He is the Senate chair of the Insurance and Real Estate Committee and vice-chair of the Banking Committee and Commerce Committee. He is Ranking Member on the Internship Committee and is a member of the Legislative Management Committee and Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee.
