Duff: Job Training Program Available for Homeowners Facing Foreclosure

Mortgage Crisis Job Training Program provides help for eligible homeowners

A program created by state Senator Bob Duff (D-Norwalk), Senate chair of the General Assembly’s Banks Committee, to help homeowners facing foreclosure gain necessary job skills to increase their income and become more financially stable is now available to through The WorkPlace, Inc.

The Mortgage Crisis Job Training Program offers borrowers customized employment services, job training scholarships, job placement assistance, financial literacy, credit counseling and other services. There is no cost to eligible borrowers, and program staff will work in partnership with credit counselors and other support agencies to help improve borrowers’ financial standing with lenders.

“The mortgage relief legislation that we passed earlier this year was designed not only to deal with the immediate effects of subprime mortgages and skyrocketing foreclosure rates but also to secure our economy and to help homeowners help themselves,” said Senator Duff. “The Mortgage Crisis Job Training Program is an integral part of the equation. This program will help give borrowers the skills necessary to gain meaningful employment, make their finances more attractive to reputable lenders and get them back on their feet and able to meet their obligations.”

The program is for Connecticut residents who meet the following criteria:

The Mortgage Crisis Job Training Program was created earlier this year through Public Act 08-176, An Act Concerning Responsible Lending and Economic Security. The program state-funded through the Special Banking Fund and does not impact the state’s General Fund.

The Mortgage Crisis Job Training Program is a project of The WorkPlace, Inc. in partnership with the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority, Capital Workforce Partners and Connecticut’s workforce system.
