State Senator Bob Duff (D-Norwalk) welcomed school nurses from Norwalk Public Schools to the Capitol today and thanked them for their dedication to keeping our school children safe and healthy.
Sen. Duff made two presentations to the school nurses: One was a proclamation from Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and the other was a citation from the General Assembly. The legislative citation honoring the school nurses was sponsored by the entire Norwalk delegation.
On hand to receive the honors were Grace Vetter, coordinator of health services for Norwalk Public Schools, and Barbara Lialios, a nurse at Brien McMahon High School. The nurses also received a special “thank you” from Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman at the Capitol.
“School nurses have one of the most important jobs in the world—caring for our children and keeping them safe and healthy during school hours,” Sen. Duff said. “They do so much more for our kids than many parents realize, often taking a holistic approach by tending to a child’s social and mental health needs as well as their physical ailments. I am so grateful for the hard work and dedication of these talented individuals.”
The presentations were made inside Lt. Governor Wyman’s office in honor of national School Nurses Day, which is on May 9.
