Today State Senator John Fonfara (D-Hartford, Wethersfield) and State Representative Kelvin Roldán (D-Hartford) announced $5 million to revitalize Colt Gateway is expected to be approved during Friday’s State Bond Commission meeting.
“The landmark Colt building has a long history in Hartford as a hub of industrial, commercial and residential activity. That history continues with this revitalization project, which will bring new investment and activity to this area of Downtown Hartford," said Senator Fonfara.
“These funds will go a long way toward improving the vitality of this historic neighborhood,” Representative Roldán said. “I thank Congressman John Larson for his support of this revitalization project and hope it serves as a catalyst for further federal focus and action on this national park.”
Colt Gateway, located at the historic Coltsville factory site in Hartford, was constructed in 1847 by Samuel Colt to attract laborers. It was a self-contained community surrounding the factory that included housing, gardens and entertainment halls as well as a library, school, church and social hall.
The present revitalization of the 17-acre Colt Gateway community will include a mix of retail, office and commercial space in conjunction with brand new apartment homes. Sitting at the crossroads of two major interstate highways, Colt Gateway will link residents to downtown's Adriaen's Landing and the Connecticut River with access to a variety of activities, events and attractions. The project is expected to create or retain approximately 1055 construction related jobs.
