Looney, Connecticut Pardon Team to Host Forum on Pardon Process

Past criminal records deter those who have transformed their lives

State Senate Majority Martin M. Looney (D-New Haven) today announced that he and the Connecticut Pardon Team will host a free informational forum on the pardon system in Connecticut. The event will be held Thursday, December 14, 2006, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Office of Legislative Services, 165 Church Street in New Haven.

"Many ex-offenders genuinely alter their lives and become productive, hard-working citizens," Sen. Looney said. "Unfortunately, these persons are often prevented from advancing their careers and improving their circumstances due to their criminal record. The pardon process can, at times, assist deserving individuals to move forward with their lives once they have completed the requirements of the sentence for their crime, demonstrated rehabilitation and remained violation free for five years."

Added Sen. Looney, "The General Assembly recently made the pardon process more reasonable and this forum will explain the new process."

The Connecticut Pardon Team, Inc. is a 501(C) (3) tax-exempt organization that provides tools and information to help change the lives of individuals who were formerly convicted of a crime; who have successfully completed their parole and / or probation; who have remained conviction-free for at least 5 years; who have made significant steps toward rebuilding their lives and have taken positive action to rehabilitate themselves; who are taking an active role in giving back to their communities; and who are setting an exceptional example for other convicted persons.

The Connecticut Pardon Team has provided information and assistance to thousands of individuals since 2004 which has helped them determine their eligibility to apply for a non-inmate pardon. By raising public awareness of the process of applying for a pardon, and the procedures surrounding the pardon process, the team has helped simplify the process and make it more accessible.
