State Senate President Pro Temp Donald E. Williams, Jr. (D-Brooklyn) today announced legislative committee assignments--including chairs and vice chairs--for the 2007-2008 biennium.
Sen. Williams, who names the committee leadership positions for the majority Senate Democrats, said the committee leaders will play key roles in achieving the Democratic agenda. "We have the challenge of formulating a budget for the next biennium as well as addressing other top priorities such as increasing access to quality, affordable healthcare for all our citizens. Fortunately, the Democratic Caucus remains strong in number and made up of talented, experienced and extremely qualified people. It is the epitome of the proverbial 'deep bench.'" Sen. Williams said. "We remain dedicated to strong leadership, common sense action and the protection of the services that make Connecticut great."
Sen. Williams noted the depth of experience of the committee leaders will be extremely valuable as legislators grapple with the projected state budget deficit. "These are quality people with both experience and character," he said.
