Senator Williams receives an award from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Connecticut at the State Capitol. He took time to meet with the sixteen young men and women who were ”Youth of the Year“ candidates.

State Senate President Pro Tempore Donald E. Williams, Jr. (D-Brooklyn) today received the Champion of Youth award from the Connecticut Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs "in recognition of ...outstanding commitment to youth, community and Club."

Alliance Executive Director Joe Andreana cited Sen. Williams' work in getting a Boys Club unit at the Connecticut Juvenile Training School as well a "Target Re-Entry" pilot program to help students from the training school reenter the community. "It was through the efforts of Senator Williams that we were able to start this pilot program that connected former training school students to a Boys Club in the local community. And now, there is funding in the yet-to-be-approved state budget to expand this program statewide," Andreana said.

Andreana was at the state Capitol today with sixteen teenagers from across the state who have been nominated for the Boys and Girls Clubs Connecticut Youth of the Year award. Sen. Williams addressed the group in his Capitol office. "I want to congratulate you all for setting an example for your peers, stepping up in your community and making a difference. You all should be very proud and it is an honor to have you all here," he said.
