State Senate President Pro Tempore Donald E. Williams, Jr. (D-Brooklyn) today received an award from the Connecticut Micro-Enterprise Resource Group (MERG) for his commitment to small business economic development in the state. He received the honor at a ceremony in the state Capitol.
"Whenever we had an issue that related to small business development, we knew a response was just a telephone call to Sen. Williams' office away," said Donna Wertenbach, President of MERG. "His understanding and exemplary work on issues relating to economic development and small business are among the reasons we honor him today."
Sen. Williams noted that the work to develop small business in the state will continue. "We will continue to move the state forward in partnership with groups like Donna's to keep and grow jobs in our state."
Added Sen. Williams, "Last year when we passed Senate Bill One, 'Jobs for the 21st Century,' we made a commitment to economic development and job growth in this state. That commitment will continue."
Sen. Williams related a story about a small businessman in Northeastern Connecticut who was on the verge of losing his business. "Donna's group stepped in and helped him modernize the way he was financing his operation. It helped him immensely and demonstrated the need and effectiveness of groups like MERG."
MERG is a statewide networking group dedicated to small business development.
