Williams Says Governor Rell’s Veto of Minimum Wage Bill Will Hurt Working Families

Statement From Senator President Donald E. Williams, Jr.

"Gov. Rell's veto will hurt single mothers, working families, and the 65,000 people in Connecticut who are paid at or below minimum wage. For these families, the extra few dollars a week is crucial to just keep pace with the rising cost of groceries and gas. Gov. Rell says she understands this reality but her empty rhetoric is cold comfort to these families."

"Overriding a veto is difficult, especially with so many Republican Senators standing in the way. No doubt Gov. Rell's office will put enormous pressure on the two Republican Senators who voted for the minimum wage increase to flip their votes--or at least skip the veto session. Ultimately these Senators will have to decide who they really answer to--the governor or their constituents."
