Senate President Donald E. Williams, Jr. (D-Brooklyn) today endorsed Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s call for a special legislative session later this month to debate and pass a multi-million dollar package of energy assistance designed to help Connecticut residents cope with the high cost of home heating oil and to survive the coming winter in safety and comfort.
“At the end of the day, we will be standing with the people of Connecticut by expending the small state surplus that we have on a package of programs designed to help the neediest get through what promises to be a very difficult home-heating oil season,” Sen. Williams said. “Just last week Democrats successfully pushed for the release of $5 million in state bonding to help middle-income homeowners upgrade their heating systems to more efficient and cost-effective units. Now we’re building on that commitment by targeting millions of dollars in state surplus monies for Operation Fuel, for heating assistance for cities, towns, schools and non-profits, and by making positive changes to oil delivery and home heating oil contracts.”
The potential special session date is Friday, August 22.
