Senator Looney speaks to members of the press the morning after the 2008 general elections when Democrats saw increases in their membership in the Connecticut General Assembly. Behind him are House Majority Leader Chris Donovan, House Speaker Jim Amann, and U.S. Senator Chris Dodd (November 5, 2008)
Senate President Donald E. Williams, Jr. (D-Brooklyn) and Majority Leader Martin Looney (D-New Haven) welcome the addition of Anthony Musto as the next State Senator from the 22nd District — comprised of Bridgeport, Monroe, and Trumbull — and say he will be a great voice for his constituents.
“Anthony Musto ran a positive campaign focused on the issues that families care most about — health care, education, and taxes,” said Senator Williams. “He will be a great addition to our caucus as we tackle these challenges facing Connecticut’s families.”
Musto’s victory, combined with victories for all 23 incumbent Democratic Senators, means that the Senate Democrats now represent two-thirds of the senate.
“The people of Connecticut went to the polls in record numbers yesterday and they overwhelmingly turned to Democrats to help them through this difficult time,” said Senator Looney. “We are committed to turning this economy around and to help families make ends meet — and we cannot do it alone. The challenges we face are so great that it will take bi-partisanship and cooperation in order to succeed.”
“Families do not want their elected leaders throwing partisan lightening bolts at each other, they want solutions,” said Senator Williams. “There is no time to relax — we have a state budget to balance, and an economy that needs an overhaul.”
