New Haven State Senators Offer ‘Resources for Jobseekers’ Web Page

One-stop shop web page to help jobless access services

As Connecticut’s unemployment rate continues to rise, Senate Majority Leader Martin Looney (D-New Haven) and Senator Toni Harp (D-New Haven) are announcing the creation of a new Senate Democrats’ Web page designed to help people access state and federal unemployment services.

“The global recession has hit Connecticut,” said Senator Looney. “Many families are worried about lay-offs and how they’ll make ends meet. In these difficult times, there is assistance available. This page provides a list of services and contact information that might be useful for you, a family member, a friend or neighbor.”

The address for the "Connecticut Senate Democrats' Resources for Jobseekers" Web page is: http://www.senatedems.ct.gov/Jobs. It includes contact information related to unemployment benefits, job banks and employment assistance sites, free tax preparation, and unemployment insurance.

“It is imperative that during the global recession the legislature work with Gov. Rell to not only retain jobs, but to position Connecticut for growth as the economy improves,” said Senator Harp. “At the same time, we want to make sure that people who are struggling have access to the help they need.”

According to the Department of Labor, Connecticut lost 3,600 jobs in January and the unemployment rate hit 7.3 percent. The state lost 9,300 jobs in December and approximately 12,000 in November.
