New Haven Senators to Co-host Town Hall Forum This Saturday

Senate Majority Leader Martin Looney and Senator Toni Harp to provide overview of CT’s budget and economic crisis

Hartford: New Haven’s legislative delegation, including Senate Majority Leader Martin Looney and Senator Toni Harp, are hosting a town hall forum this Saturday to discuss the current economic crisis facing Connecticut families — and the state budget.

The town hall forum will take place on Saturday March 28th at 10 AM at New Haven City Hall, 165 Church St. — Aldermanic Chambers. The first half of the forum is designated for New Haven’s community based organizations to address the delegation with their concerns. The second half, beginning at 11:30 pm, is an opportunity for a dialogue with all members of the public.

“The global economic crisis has hit home,” said Senator Looney, “and it is critical that we work together to mitigate its effects on Connecticut families. This not only means reaching across the political aisle, but increasing the level of input our constituents have in the process. I look forward to sitting down with members of the public, sharing with them the challenges we face and listening to their concerns.”

“Our system of government is dependent upon two-way communication between electors and those they choose to represent them, but under these extraordinary economic circumstances, it’s even more important to have a rigorous dialogue with residents about what our state budget priorities ought to be,” said Senator Toni N. Harp, Senate Chair of the Appropriations Committee. “I’ve been part of comparable meetings in other parts of the state but look forward to this meeting in particular to discuss these issues among friends and neighbors.”
