Musto Attends Jobs Fair in Bridgeport

Hundreds of job seekers speak with companies, refine their resumes

BRIDGEPORT—Today State Senator Anthony Musto (D-Trumbull) attended a Job Fair in the Arnold Bernhard Center at the University of Bridgeport, hosted by U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal.

“It was very encouraging to see so many businesses here today looking to hire new employees. Combined with the resume and interview preparation that was available, I think everyone who attended came away with something valuable. Hopefully many will receive a job offer. I would like to thank Senator Blumenthal for his work organizing today’s Jobs Fair, and for selecting Bridgeport to host it,” said Senator Musto.

Hundreds of job seekers came to speak with companies looking to hire new employees. Consultation was available to provide attendees with assistance writing resumes and preparing for job interviews.

Representatives were present from a wide variety of Connecticut industries, including manufacturing, engineering, sales, nursing, marketing, banking and others. Participation was free of charge for both job seekers and businesses.

Some of the companies and organizations that participated today included: Comcast, Fed-Ex, Cablevision, People’s United Bank, UIL Holdings, Saint Vincent’s Medical Center, the Southwest Community Health Center, Yale University, Trumpf Inc., Prudential, General Dynamics, Home Depot, Bridgeport Hospital, and the CT Department of Labor.

Job availability and the creation of new employment opportunities is a top priority for Senator Musto in the ongoing 2012 legislative session. Late last year, he voted for major bipartisan jobs legislation that is helping small businesses to grow with forgivable loans, tax credits, and subsidies for training of new employees.

This year, he is supporting Senate Bill 1, which would make more than 2,600 businesses statewide with fewer than 100 employees newly eligible for $180 million in state-funded business loans and grants.

State Senator Anthony Musto represents the 22nd District towns of Trumbull, Bridgeport and Monroe. He is Senate Chair of the Human Services Committee.
