State Senate President Pro Tempore Donald E. Williams, Jr. (D-Brooklyn) today announced that H. H. Ellis Technical High School, located at 613 Upper Maple Street in Danielson, is slated to receive a $184,260 grant from the state, while Windham Technical High School, with campuses at 210 Birch Street in Willimantic, is scheduled to receive a grant of $200,154.
The grants will be used to purchase computers for academic programs, trade equipment, and networking equipment. H. H. Ellis and Windham Tech are two of more than twenty technical schools sharing in a $5,000,000 allocation for computer purchase.
"These two schools serve the majority of towns in the eastern portion of Connecticut and provide technical education opportunities to students in these towns," said Senator Williams. "In today's society, computer literacy is paramount. It's extremely important that our public schools are equipped with the necessary computer technology to ensure that students leave with a working knowledge of computers."
The grants will be administered by the state Department of Education. The funds are expected to be approved when the state Bond Commission meets on Friday, March 30, 2007, at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
